I Need You

You make me feel you

late night conversations

carried into twilight hours

whispers turned declarations

I need you

I’ve fought against emotions

a decades long war that holds me strong

weakens my resolve to fight

a certain woman buckled my pride

she’s new to me but my spirit has longed for her for so long

Why do I see heaven in your eyes

you envision betrayal in your dreams

a fallen staircase tripping up my best intentions

burdening the tenderness in your heart

needing to earn your trust without the frailty of human promise

You found a sincerity long hidden

late into our first conversation I feigned no recourse; I was smitten

carried past practiced behaviors into a visceral state

whispers from my heart to my brain and back again

I need you
